Frequently asked questions

  • What is nutritional therapy?
Nutrition therapy is a personalized approach to health and wellness that focuses on using food, nutrients, and lifestyle changes to improve overall well-being. We work on the basis that we are treating an individual person, not just a symptom. We avoid trying to suppress the body’s signs and symptoms, and instead take a big picture view of how all the systems of the body are functioning together which facilitates identification of root cause(s) and the ability to support at this level appropriately. Naturopaths believe that the body has an innate ability to heal itself, and that symptoms are the body's way of communicating an underlying imbalance.
  • Who can benefit from nutrition therapy?
Anyone looking to improve their health and we can support almost any health condition.
  • How is nutrition therapy different from traditional dieting?
Nutritional Therapy is a holistic approach that considers your unique needs, lifestyle, and preferences. It aims to make sustainable changes that promote long-term health rather than temporary results.
  • What can I expect during my first consultation?
Once your package is booked and paid for, you will receive an in-depth health questionnaire to complete and send back no later than 72 hours prior to the consultation. This will include your personal and family medical history, medication and supplements past and present, information about your lifestyle as well as symptoms you’re experiencing and health goals. You will also complete a 7-day diet diary. Based on this information, during the consultation you will receive a detailed plan outlining clear aims and action points, any recommended tests which may be private or via your GP, supplement recommendations if applicable and information on how to order them, foods to include and exclude and any lifestyle changes.
  • Do you offer virtual consultations?
All private one-to-one consultations are conducted virtually. Virtual sessions are conducted via secure video calls and are just as effective as in-person appointments
  • Will my insurance cover nutrition therapy?
Health Shield recognise NNA full members as accepted practitioners for allergy and food intolerance testing, naturopathy and nutritional therapy.
  • How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions required depends on your health goals and individual progress. We can discuss this on the discovery call.
  • Can nutrition therapy help with weight loss?
Absolutely. Our approach focuses on sustainable weight management, emphasizing a healthy relationship with food, mindful eating, and balanced nutrition. Instead of restrictive dieting, we focus on nourishing your body and building habits that can be maintained long-term.
  • Can I still enjoy my favourite foods while working with you?
Yes! We believe in balance, not deprivation. Our goal is to help you enjoy a diverse range of foods in a way that supports your health. We’ll work together to find healthier versions of your favourite dishes and incorporate them into your plan.
  • Are supplements a part of nutrition therapy?
In some cases, supplements may be recommended to address specific nutrient deficiencies or health concerns. However, the focus is primarily on obtaining nutrients through whole foods first. We’ll only suggest supplements if necessary and in a safe, evidence-based manner.
  • How long does it take to see results?
Results vary depending on your health goals, current condition, and adherence to your personalised plan. Many clients report feeling better within a few weeks, but significant, long-lasting changes typically take a few months.
  • What if I have dietary restrictions?
We are experienced in working with various dietary preferences and restrictions. Whether you’re vegan, gluten-free, or have other specific dietary, religious or belief based needs, we will tailor your nutrition plan to fit your lifestyle and health goals.
  • Are you registered and insured with a professional body?
Yes, we are registered with the NNA (Naturopathic Nutrition Association), ANP (Association of Naturopathic Practitioners) and GNC (General Naturopathic Council) and hold appropriate Professional Indemnity, Public Liability and Medical Malpractice Insurance.
  • Do you offer payment plans for lab tests?
This will depend on which test we order – some labs do offer payment plans through Klarna or Clearpay for example. If this is a priority, we can look at these options for you.
  • What if there’s nothing wrong in my test results?
This could be good news – testing is as much about ruling things out as finding an issue and can still be very useful to know. However, rest assured a recommendation to test will only be made with good reason.
  • Can I get tests done on the NHS?
If it can be done on the NHS that’s what we’ll recommend. However, testing in the NHS is very limited and nowhere near as extensive as the private lab tests we have access to.
  • How does it all work with testing?
Once you have agreed to a test, you will pay me or the lab directly and receive detailed instructions in advance according to the test, including how to provide a blood sample using a phlebotomist if necessary. There is no cost mark up on tests and interpretation of results is included in your plan price for all tests except the FDX Ultra blood test. This test is so comprehensive we charge an additional £200 for interpretation.
